leap day

A leap year is a year containing one extra day or month in order to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical or seasonal year. The extra day is basically added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure.

There is an old Irish tradition, dates back as early as 1288 which allows woman to propose marriage to the man of her choice and the man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. 29 Feb is a day which breaks away from an old custom that only men propose marriage. Its cool isn't it, imagine women in the past, oppressed by men, given the chance to pursue her love on a brief but liberated day *_*

There are people who get married or make romantic promises on 29 Feb, our Singapore's first english love story movie "The Leap Years" is about a couple who falls in love on leap day and then braved the ravage of time to keep their promise of meeting every 4 years. Romantic and touching ? yes, but its too painful, how much longing and torture can a soul take in when on every 28 Feb, you miss a love one so much but is devasted as the next day is not going to be 29th. Just by thinking about it, sickens me to the core -_-
