6 plus in the evening, still in office, and news filtered through that our Table Tennis Women's Team (Li Jia Wei, Wang Yue Gu & Feng Tian Wei), had beaten South Korea and through to the finals on Sunday, YEAH ! There was a buzz in the office and we are glad that Singapore had finally won a medal, at least a Silver medal even if we lose in the finals.
But there's no way any professional sportsmen will play for a Silver, Gold is what the team is after and hopefully they can overcome their nerves and achieve the dream.
The 3 ladies are indeed not Singapore-born, however, the desire, competitive hunger and pride to win is universal for every sportsmen and we should not take that credit away from them.
It might have been perfect if Singaporeans can achieve this Olympic dream, but the table tennis team deserved to be saluted and be appreciated just for the fact they worked hard and competed in honesty for Singapore.
For the finals, admittedly, Wang Nan and Zhang Yining of China are best in the world now and delightful to watch, so no matter win or lose, I'm sure its going to be a great final to savour :)
