Something special happened in Anfield tonight, but not in the way which the 41,355 supporters had expected. They were left frustrated with one of the worst recent European performance by our beloved Reds, its even more bewildering as Anfield is supposed to be shrine of famous European victories..

2 weeks ago, the lads were poor against Porto, but they fought hard from a goal down,and hang on after Pennant's early dismissal to earn a precious away draw against a team full of gamesmanship & divers..but this time against Marseille, there were no excuses, we didn't deserve a single point. Yes, we were that poor that it hurts :(

It was a pedestrain performance from the team, the midfield was non-existent, players were not going for the ball, there were sloppy passes galore. We hardly had a sniff at goal, and we could have thought Marseille was the home team..

Sissoko was giving away the ball too often,creating unneccesary pressure. His miscontrol near our penalty area resulted in the Marseille winner. Gerrard was again below par, on a night when we thought our captain can regain his form in front of the adoring crowd, we were left puzzled again why that cutting edge in him had deserted him. And the supposedly in-form Benayoun who scored the winner against Wigan a few days back had a subdued game. Our strikers had also left their scoring boots at home..

Rafa picked Torres, Benayoun who were in hot form, and we also had our experienced back four, but if the men on the field didn't do the job, I don't see why we should just blame Rafa. The lads had to accept responsibility for the loss also. Rafa couldn't hide his anger and disappointment when he said the only positive was that the game was over. There is an early mountain to climb in this group stage with 1 point from a possible 6 and hopefully we are able to find our way back -_-
